Thanks, Andrew Richter!

I am so flattered and touched by this ... Andrew Richter, of Fitness for the Regular Guy blog, wrote a beautiful piece about me on runjersey.com :

  2. I am so ecstatic to have found this article that led me here to your post. I am a 35 year old runner that was 1 week out from running my 3rd marathon last October, when I was diagnosed with a stress fracture to my sacrum. I was devastated to say the least. I was referred to an endocronologist, and after many tests and scans, I was also diagnosed with hypercalciuria. Since my bone density scan showed I was within the normal range (albeit on the low end of normal), I was placed on a modest dose of hydrochlorothiazide daily. I was told to rest and recover and stay low impact without any forecast of when I could return (if ever) to running. In March, a follow up bone scan revealed that my fracture had healed. I was told that I could return to modest jogging. I was feeling great until 3 weeks ago when I had a flare up of residual pain in my sacrum. I emailed my (very conservative) doctor for advice and was told that I probably came back too strong and that I should consider giving up running and taking on a different sport, such as swimming. Running is in my blood. It is an integral part of my life. I have been feeling like I am on an island. To see your blog has given me a glimmer of hope. I would love to read more about the injections you took for your condition and the training program you used to return to running. Could you provide me with that information? Any help I could get would be so appreciated! I wish that I lived in New Jersey so I could come talk with you in person. You are the first person I have found that can relate to what I am going through now. Thank you for giving me hope!

  3. Hi Kimberly!! As you know every person and condition is different, so treatment will be dependent on different things (check with your doctors), but my doctors put me on Forteo injections for 18 months, and my DEXA bone density scans improved. I can email you more about this and my training programs if you wish!
